A Golfe du Morbihan lover asked us to design a fast and fun boat for the Golfe's shallow waters.
Large enough for four, the deck layout is optimized to be used even single-handed : self-tacking jib, spinnaker snuffer… Bihan 6.50 features a large cockpit, a central locker sized for an electrical outboard engine and enough interior space for inshore cruising in the summer or gear stowage.
A deck hatch at the bow gives access to both the anchor locker and the spinnaker snuffer. Its cover can close either.
The aft beam secures the cockpit and supports the boom at anchor.
The gunter rig made in carbon, offers a classical look, along with the advantage of short spars, easy to handle during stepping and unstepping of the rig, whether for transportation or winter stowing.
The keel pivots into the hull, leaving only a couple of centimeters out, to protect the bottom while beaching.
A wide companionway gives access the arrangement designed for 2 adults and 2 children to spend a night on board.
A CFD study has been performed to evaluate the performance of the boat, its handling, and the influence of its keel box.
A prototype was built in strip-planking at the Trégor Composites shipyard. The Marine Composite (mail - Facebook) shipyard has been chosen to build Bihan 6.50 in series and in composites. It is entierly made of glassfiber/foam sandwich. Teak deck comes as an option.
The prototype was launched in July 2014.
The first series boat will be launched in November 2015. Bihan 6.50 will be present at the Paris and Düssedorf boat shows in 2015.
